Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre Celebrates Mexican Street Culture

The festival will taje place from July 15 to 17.

For the 11th straight year, Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre is set to celebrate the vibrant street culture of Mexico with the return of its Ritmo y Color festival.

Taking place from July 15 to 17, a three-day celebration «bursting with culture, colourful murals and the smells of delicious street food from every corner» is promised by organizers, complete with «the best theatre, music and dance from the land that combines Indigenous, European and African culture into something wholly unique.»

Highlighting this year’s edition are performances from Mexico City outfit Centavrvs on July 15, along with Montreal-based vocalist Mamselle and Astrid Hadad and July 16. The festival’s Lucha by the Water event will also see Mexico’s top lucha libre talent match up both alongside and against some of Toronto’s homegrown Mexican wrestlers.

«To know a nation is to know its cities, to know a city is to walk its streets. That is why for our eleventh edition of Ritmo y Color, we bring the streets of Mexico to Toronto so visitors can discover the riches of Mexican street culture,» Harbourfront Centre’s artistic associate Sergio Elmir said in a statement. «This three-day weekend is bursting with Mexican street culture for all to enjoy.»
